A long time ago, seemingly in a galaxy far, far away, I started this Substack with the idea of sharing stuff that I work on. I got out a couple of posts and then… silence. The silence was due to this idea that I had in my head— let’s call it an order of operations— in which I had, in my infinite wisdom, decided that, before I really delved into posting, I wanted to complete a couple of projects to set the groundwork. Only, I didn’t get those completed and so, stuck on those, everything else I wanted to do piled up behind them. Well, I finally have got them done (thank the GODS) and, if they don’t look like much, they’re foundational for the things that I want to do.
The first of these is Do Anything D6 (hereafter DAD6, free/PWYW on itch or DTRPG), which I created as an enhanced version of the x-6 resolution familiar to anyone who’s played B/X or a similar D&D-like game. It’s a dice pool system, uses only six-sided dice, and I think it’s pretty easy to plug into whatever system that you might want. I plan to use it as my in-house chassis for different projects.
The second one, titled, provocatively, Do Anything D6 Wilderness (hereafter DAD6W, free/PWYW on itch or DTRPG) is a module that extends the functionality of DAD6 to cover wilderness-specific tasks and introduces a system for “statting” out regions, areas, and/or individual hexes as if they were creatures.
They may not look like much, particularly the plain text versions (I will be typesetting DAD6W shortly) but I wanted to have them from the start of things to underpin the worlds that I make. Unfortunately, my adult ADHD combined with other factors caused me to get into the STUCK mode and made it REALLY hard for me to get out. But I did get out, by hook and by crook and my excuses for not getting moving on all the projects that I want to get done are gone— it doesn’t mean it won’t be a struggle still— but that particular rut is behind me.
So what now?
Expect a steady stream of updates here now. My intention with this channel is to stay worldbuilding/sandbox/hexcrawl focused, touching on adjacent topics, naturally. I’m flexible though so I may swerve here and there as we find our way here.
In the hopper…
My long suffering Kickstarter was one of the things that was blocked by my inability to either pivot off of or complete my rules chassis but, now that they are done, I’m assembling stuff to finally scratch off that line item of old business.
Hexcrawloween
I’m also working on an entry for the Hexcrawloween Game Jam on itch. I’ve set up a game page on itch and am streaming work live on YouTube.
Let’s get back to business and create some stuff!
If this read like much to do about little, I can’t argue with you, but, from here on out, I’ll try to be on the regular with with gaming stuff that we can sink our teeth into.
Game on!
I’ll talk to you later,
Todd / Hexed Press.
